Nesting ospreys blocking Md. public radio station
Associated Press -- A pair of nesting ospreys and their young are accomplishing what many right-wing hawks might like to do, blocking transmission of a Maryland public radio station.
The birds of prey have been nesting on the antenna tower at Salisbury University, interfering with broadcasts of Public Radio Delmarva stations WSDL and WSCL.
Gerry Weston, general manager of Public Radio Delmarva, says the frequent interruptions have prompted complaints from listeners. He says they've hired a tower climber to modify the antenna in hopes of eliminating the disruptions.
Ellen Lawler, a biology department professor who studies birds, says ospreys return to the Lower Shore every spring and have been on the campus for five or six years.
