Old friends and new at Green Drinks

Greenville Green Drinks was held last night at Harry's Seafood Grill on the Riverfront, and I ran into some familiar faces.

David Knight, president of Go Jute USA in Pennsville, N.J., was there. He's the guy with the big smile and the jute bag over his shoulder. What's jute? It's a fabric made from a plant, similar to hemp and linseed. David's bags are 100 percent biodegradable. As he says: "When you're done, throw them in the garden." Get more facts on jute here.

The man on the left of the top photo is Mark Lannan of BrightFields Inc., which he runs with his wife, Marian Young. BrightFields, based in Wilmington, is a consulting and service firm "delivering a full range of environmental investigation, audit, remediation and management solutions." Despite the tough economy, they've been hiring in anticipation of a recovery. Last year, Young and Lannan were honored as the Small Business Administration's Delaware Small Business Persons of the Year.

I also ran into Phil Woods, who started Spinners Mobile Bicycle Repair when he lost his job in the corporate world. (He's the guy in the yellow shirt in the top photo, the only one with his eyes open. Hey, I'm no Fred Comegys.) Just so happens that Phil was featured in The News Journal yesterday. He's a great guy, and obviously innovative and resourceful. Phil is a die-hard cyclist and says he really gets a kick out of fixing other people's bikes so they can get out and enjoy the sport, too. And what greener way is there to travel than by bike? Good luck to Phil.

Phil was talking to Claire of Candles by Claire. She started making soy candles a few years ago as gifts for her children's teachers. Word of mouth spread, and soon Claire was running her own business. She now has dozens of scents, and her candles are clean-burning and, of course, plant based. Find out what people are saying about Candles by Claire.

The brains behind Green Drinks are Lori and John Lake of Green Delaware and GreenTV. They're great hosts and have a knack for getting like-minded people together. Keep an eye out here and on AllGreenToMe for more Green Drinks events in Delaware.

The "Green Delaware" mentioned here is well-known to be a bogus organization created to attach the real one (greendel.org).
Neat idea Maybe next time serve more drinks made with green organic and fair trade ingredients like Maine Root. I'm sure Frank's Union Liquor Warrior World can hook you up with some organic wines and beers.

Lankford Sysco carries Maine Root. Big Fish Grill , Good Earth Market and Bethany Blues serve green Maine Root drinks.

Green Delawarians want to get off the high fructose genetically modified corn syrup ferry. Great job green claws.
Actually, the Green Delaware listed here(Green Delaware, Inc.) is a Delaware Corporation 100% owned by Lori M. Lake (check with DE Div. of Revenue and Secretary of State for verification - current business license, taxes, etc.).

As Green Delaware, Inc. we are sustainability consultants helping businesses develop corporate sustainability plans. We also provide educational programs for individuals and employers/employees who want to save money, improve air quality in their personal/work environments and reduce their carbon footprint.

And lastly, although I am not normally one to respond to name calling and slandering (as I find it is typically the ones doing the mud slinging who are the guilty -read "well-known, bogus"- party trying to divert attention away from themselves), I invite anyone to view the GreenDelaware.com and GreenTV.com websites and decide for themselves. I highly doubt any "bogus organization" would receive an invitation from the Office of the Vice President of the United States to film press conferences where valid/verified press credentials and secret service security screenings are required. Check out our footage on GreenTV.com.

Oh, and one last pet peeve... if you really must leave derogatory comments, at least have the courage to sign your name and own up to them.

The people that attend Green Drinks create jobs, start new businesses, encourage stimulating conversations, help others and so much more.

It is also refreshing to see the News Journal work to help with the awareness of a growing group of people who are not only talking but doing things both small and large.

You go Green Drinks!
Lori,

The negative comment has to be from Alan Muller the extreme and radical wrong-wind activist.

Mull-Head started GreenDe.org well over a decade after your husband Jonathan created Green Delaware in 1981.

No worries, Mull-Head of Green Duds.org is not a threat to people like you who have devoted and volunteered so many years to the Delaware community.

In fact, you should slap a lawsuit on him for infringing (and attempting) to harm your good reputation.

It is also unfortunate a few of the "reporters" of the News Journal use Muller to sensationalize some of their environmental stories when they know (or should know) Muller is not Green Delaware.

Ask ANYONE in the County, City or State. They will tell the same thing and in fact, that would be a good story for the real reporters at the News Journal exposing Muller for who he really is.

Ms. Peterson
I am a consultant working in the information technology field. I am a believer in green and have been successful helping companies leverage technology to become more green friendly. I started attending Green Drink about six months ago and it is a fantastic group! I have meet many like minded folks and made several significant business connections. I am not sure what “bogus” means to the person that posted the negative comment? Perhaps in their world bogus comes for the Greek word meaning “to meet nice, green friendly, like minded professionals, at upscale locations, while making real business connections” Don’t take my word for it, come out and see for yourself.
